What a great time like spring to re-fresh any room of your home. It’s that time of year where we all want to get rid of the clutter, and do some spring cleaning. This would be a great time to focus on an area of your home you’ve wanted to re-decorate. I would love to help you through the many phases of getting started, so let’s begin! When selecting your room, decide first by writing down what you’re keeping for furnishings, and what your wanting to replace. It’s a good idea to have a budget in mind at this point. If you can’t do it all at one time, that’s ok, at least you’re on your way getting started! You can see in my photos of the before and after’s a lof of decisions for changes had to be made prior to my client leaving out of the country. Equally important now, look also at what you want to keep or replace in your lighting, window treatments, wall art, flooring, along with accessories. Looking at the room as a whole, you may decide at this point on a new paint color or wallcovering. This is a great way to refresh your walls with a new look and developing the mood you want to achieve. In this beginning stage I would suggest a floor plan, allowing different options for arranging your furnishings, area rug,and locations for lighting. Having a professional designer is a good idea in helping you with your floor plan if you are not comfortable doing this yourself. By doing a floor plan, this helps prevent you making costly mistakes on purchases. Once you have selected your floor plan you want, this may be a good time to look at your overall budget again. It’s best to start first with the bones of the room I call it. These are our big ticket items, like changing out your flooring with carpeting, or hardwood or another big expense that you need to tackle first.
Everyone has different starting points on their projects, this is due to everyone having different wants. After moving forward, this may be a good time purchasing your furnishings, custom window treatments and lighting, art work, which is a very important aspect of the design process. Once all this is in place, now comes even more fun in this phase of design, and that’s accessorizing! Accessories are really essential to the design process. I tell my clients when finishing up the last phases of their project; every accessory has it’s own special place. When one walks in the room they will definitely take notice along with your surroundings of artwork, lighting, color, balancing of furnishings, and window treatments. I hope you are getting excited and inspired on your new transformation! Just remember, though your style may be contemporary, modern,French country, or even traditional, it’s your space that represents who you are, and in the end that’s all that matters.
